Interview with Exit Eden (Anna Brunner)
Today we have a nice chat with a bunch of girls who know exactly what it means not to record a “simple” cover of an international hit. Exit Eden’s new masterpiece refers to the “femme fatale” as a symbol of women taking control of their own narratives with autonomy, intelligence, and independence and finding back the pure feminine energy in the world! Listen you all boys and girls…
Hi girls, would you please introduce the band to the readers of TrueMetal? Both as a band and as individual artists.
Hi, oh yes… I’m pretty sure some of you still know Exit Eden from our first release in 2017. Yes it’s been some time but we are back with our unique cover versions of well known pop and rock songs and this time even also with six original tracks on the new album Femmes Fatales. I’m Anna. Some of you meanwhile also might know me from my other band League of Distortion 😉
Seven years have come and gone since the release of your successful debut album, Rhapsodies in Black. What happened in this period of time, were you on hold or did you keep on working?
You know the reason for waiting so long wasn’t our choice, there were several circumstances adding up… we had quite some changes in our team, Covid struck the music scene and also the songwriting and production process and the release. But of course we all kept working on our other bands: Phantom Elite and Visions of Atlantis. And I took the opportunity to start, release and go on first tours with my brand new band League of Distortion.
How would you briefly describe Femmes Fatales to our readers and which differences may we find from your debut album? How is it to work as a trio?
This album is a dark but uplifting and energetic record with 12 tracks with its title Femmes Fatales, as a symbol of women taking control in their own way.
I find this 2nd album more „mature“ than the debut. Through the choice of covers and also by being able to share 6 original tracks with the fans. Exit Eden is a special combination of three front women from three different bands and countries, coming together in one project. We are sad that Amanda isn’t part of this anymore but also absolutely understand her decision.
How did you choose the songs to record on the album? From Marillion to Alice Cooper, not forgetting Pet Shop Boys: an amazing amount of variety I would say!
Thank you! It was really not easy to choose 6 cover songs but our producer and label made the final decision in the end. We wanted all the song so fit the Femme Fatale theme, either through the music, lyrics or vibe to make the album sound as if made from one piece combining the covers and the original songs.
How was to work on the video of Run?
The video production was great, we got to work with my favorite video producer Mirko Witzki and his team and make up artist Kami Zero who is a wonderful artist himself. Doing this together with my sisters in crime and also having Marko Hietala join us with a feature for the song and video of Run! was a wonderful experience.
Shall the fans expect something on the live activity side?
Oh yes we would love that but can’t share anything concrete now with you yet, so stay tuned 😉
What kind of studies did you follow in terms of musical education?
After finishing regular school I had the pleasure to study music and songwriting in Germany. I worked as a musician, vocal coach and studio vocalist for several years until I decided to dedicate everything to my bands and songwriting for other musicians and artists. This is what I am doing now and I’m very grateful that it’s going well 🙂
What can you tell us about working with Napalm Records, are you satisfied with their work?
Napalm is a successful international record label with great people working in our team. It’s good to have the contacts and reach of a record label for Exit Eden.
